Survey
This was a screening survey with a focus group consisting of Samsung phone users, of diverse age groups & editing capabilities.
In-depth Interview
To understand user behaviors better, we conducted in-depth interviews and thinking-out-loud studies with users.
Activity Flows
To gain insight into the process of editing, we studied and mapped out different activity flows for different editing apps, across multiple media.
Persona
We condensed all user data collected, to form these personas and materialize the diverse user group.
Journey Mapping
User Epics & stories and Task Allocation
Explorations
After multiple rounds of ideations we evaluated each concept on the basis of the determined factors and decided to user test idea 4, based on the results we came up with the final concepts.

Learnings
Feedback oriented & user centric design process
We found ourselves constantly going back & forth from testing and feedback to design, and it was fun to be involved in such a feedback-oriented & user-centric design process, compared to the smooth design process we are accustomed to in academics.
Multi-disciplinary collaboration
Being one of the two students who had gone through a UX project in the team, I had to find a balance between planning our next steps, teaching the ones who didn’t have the experience, and designing for the project. That led to a better understanding of the concepts. Meanwhile, learning how my friends from other disciplines view and approach the same problem.
Convenience & choice
Through our discussions, we all would often land up arguing about the balance between convenience & choice, which I realize is at the heart of many UX problems as well as solutions. In the world of AI & templates, the question of when the provided convenience becomes limiting to the user fascinated us. I personally learned a lot about Ux laws, human psychology, and design in general, while reading about it.
Client based project
It was fun getting first-hand experience in uncovering the needs of a proper client (Samsung), communicating ideas clearly, talking about constraints and requirements, and meeting expectations. This was very different from the more boundless academic projects.
